BAM AND THE HEAT IS GONE

You are viewing a brand new HKS SST Oil Cooler Kit for the Lancer Evolution X MR

The HKS SST Oil Cooler Kit
is designed to banish extreme temperatures after driving hard

Anyone who has the SST knows if you push hard it can go into limp mode.....

and it take forever to be able to cool down similar to the times of the commodore 64 trying to load.

anyway your there for awhile.

HKS have really thought this out... they have done a top job as well.

So what do you get.

SST Oil Cooler Core Specs:
-200mm x 120mm x 32mm 9 row core
-Mounted in front of the radiator

What's included:-SST high flowing Oil Pump
-HKS spec air Cooled Oil Cooler Core
-Misc. Hose
-Misc. Fitting
-Alloy Brackets
-Bolts + Fastners

This unit can work 2 ways
Full time or part time.

Full time means it is on song all the time the high flowing oil pump is consistantly moving the oil (this i suggest only for dedicated circuit)

Part time.
Is a relay setup which allows the pump to be turned on and off.

Now
also with the factory sst cooler on the passanger side trying to do it's job the HKS unit can aid this as it is located up the top above the intercooler and also the removal of the fog light is not required.

good to see we have questions...

okay..

Q:
Do I need one of these if my car is factory and i am considering doing 5/6 track days a year.

A:
If you put your car in super sport mode you should be fine.
However consistant oil changes in the box will help and if you ran the HKS upgraded transmission cooler the chances of having box issues is greatly reduced,

last time i checked a new box is $8500

5-6 laps of flat 1.10's at Wakefield in a standard X is about what you will get without a cooler upgrade....so if you want more laps (=more fun)then you need to upgrade the cooler !
Ryan@Just JDM
everything changes from,
track temp to the oil quality used also the temp + age of the transmission oil will have a massive effect on it.

at then end of the day using something like this is a building a foundation strong foundation strong car.

no point in going faster if you have a check gearbox failure becuase you wanted to take a shortcut.

before you go and do this mod.. what sort of power would you run before you made this a priority mod on your car? And do the fog delete kits help a great deal? Want to know your thoughts on keeping the box temps down... Cheers
Ryan@Just JDM
ok seriously i would look at this and have it at the top of the list of things to do.

seriously if you went a tune and get your exhaust
i would be doing a upgrade on the oil cooler starightway as the next mod.

many people who have had tunes on the MR get the gear box warning due to over heating

and it is not so much the tune is the problem it is that there is more heat, hence needing the cooler.

Yes if your going to push hard get rid of the fog lights.

I tend to look at it this way

cooler gear box oil = happier gear box

cost of a gearbox VS cost of a quality oil cooler upgrade
is pretty reasonable

I know 2 people who have already bought upgraded oil cooler kits on this site who push their cars hard and several enquires howeevr judging by BLITZ and HKS usa they ran out of stock at one point due to the demand

me... yes i think they are a big plus to have and it is not liek they are doing any harm.

Thanks for the info. Getting a exhaust and tune in the new year with the fog delete. Just a little concerned about the few things that you mentioned. I guess I can do these mods and see how it goes and then do this afterwards. Cheers.

Fog light delete kit is great to say "you've done it" but it doesn't really help much......and I know as I've done it !

i've done the delete kit as well and still found that it wasn't enough. if you are thinknig about tracking your car you really need to invest in one of these. i have one on my X and its well worth the money thumbsup.gif

I've found the same, delete kit and new fluid was not enough even for the road....... Now I have to pick up a cooler kit like this one and dump my very expentive new fluid in order to fit it. Not happy at all.

Thanks drug2u, tippy and arutha as you have answer my most important question. This is not good considering I'm getting a tune and exhaust - pretty much exact set up as tippy. Don't want to go down this path if its nothing but trouble. Cheers boys.
Ryan@Just JDM
looks like one is on the way to Melbourne

home of the SST

i have more customers in Melb with SST than anywhere else.

Mine, mine all mine. I'm sooooo looking forward to all my heat issues disappearing in the wind!
